If you are a business that sells to other businesses then this week’s blog post is for you!
B2B PR is a massive market. A lot of businesses sell business solutions to business owners and there is a whole set of media and opportunities out there for that, including feature and news opportunities.
So how do you approach PR if you are selling to other businesses rather than the general public?
Targeting Business Journalists
As you can imagine Business Journalists write about businesses. They work for both regional and national newspapers that have business features and news sections within their publications.
Get hold of your local newspaper, look at the business pages and take note of:
- Who writes the business articles?
- Who is the editor?
- What sort of stories do they cover?
Research Trade Publications
There is a whole raft of magazines that cover news, stories and features for every industry under the sun! They are looking for content and contributions from people within that industry. In terms of raising awareness with your peers and showing yourself as an expert, then trade publications are fantastic for you.
Trade publications can be found with a Google search and researching what publications are out there in your industry. Every sector has its own publications.
If you write a feature about a hot topic in your industry not only can you share that with potential clients but also share what you know to a big audience, which is incredibly powerful!
Trade publications are a really great way to make connections and may even have their own awards shows that you could be a part of.
Research Business Websites
There are business websites that are targeted at a certain type of business and again those sites are looking for news, comment on relevant news stories within that sector and looking for expert opinion. There is a whole raft of credible places to really show your expertise and stand out in your industry to reach more clients and customers.
These are a great opportunity to get good quality backlinks to your website, which will really help with your SEO rankings.
There are loads of benefits of looking at these aspects of your PR. Yes it may not be as sexy as being featured in Vogue, Forbes or Good Housekeeping, but if it is going to reach your target audience then these are great pieces of coverage that you can share far and wide. Check out this blog about how you can maximise that coverage here.
There are of course others ways to do B2B PR, such as:
- Guest blogging
- Hosting/collaborating on events
- Attending events and networking groups
- Featuring on podcasts
- Doing an interview in Facebook groups
- Entering awards
It all comes down to building the right relationships so you can get in front of the right audience for you.
B2B is such a solid area of building traditional relationships, with a multitude of PR opportunities.
