Clubhouse is a new social media app based on voice, where people around the world come together to talk, listen and learn from each other in real-time.
It is a really interesting platform that has taken off hugely!
Some people love it, some people hate it. But I certainly think it is worth checking it out for your business and wanted to share with you why.
WHAT IS CLUBHOUSE & HOW DOES IT WORK?
Probably the best way I can describe it is a live radio show.
It is a full audio experience that is not pre-recorded or available for relisten/watch – so you either access it live or not at all.
It’s invite-only (from those who are already on Clubhouse) and available on Apple and Android. The more you use the platform, the more invites you receive (when you first join you get 2 free invites).
Members of Clubhouse can set up a room and talk about a topic of their choosing. That room is then shown on Clubhouse to be available to join so others can join in the presentation/discussion.
The host, who is called a moderator, invites people to raise their hands and they can then bring them on to the ‘speaking stage’. That person can then bring their comments and questions to have a discussion.
Essentially it allows you to hold the stage with others that have the same interests as you as you listen & partake to a live show together.
Sounds pretty good right?
As with other social channels, you can follow people and get alerts when they go live so you don’t miss out and these can be regular or ‘one off’ rooms.
HOW CLUBHOUSE CAN HELP YOUR PR?
I always say that PR is all about ‘show’ and not ‘tell’.
You need to SHOW that you know your stuff.
In fact on Clubhouse, you can ONLY show that you know your stuff because the only way you can communicate is by speaking authentically live and direct in front of an audience on social media, answering questions.
Other Benefits:
- You can show your expertise, have conversations with others and get known in your business area as the go to person.
- People can hear your voice so they can feel close to you. They can hear you answering questions in real time with no editing or filtering.
- You get to create your own bio where you can add in your elevator pitch, what you are interested in, what you know about, where you have been featured in the media, what your achievements are – list it out!
- You can add a personal profile pic – if you have professional headshots, these are ideal for that.
- It is a great opportunity to create connections and collaborate with others that you may not have done elsewhere. I had a lady contact me who had heard me on Clubhouse and wanted to host a room with me on PR and Branding – that would never have happened without Clubhouse. Most of the attendees of that session were people who I had never come across before, so I was reaching a whole new audience and getting myself out there.
When it comes to Clubhouse, you are really expanding your network and creating relationships with loads of new people from around the world and previously unknown peers.
Hugely beneficial in my eyes!
Also, for those of you who don’t like showing your face online, Clubhouse can be quite appealing as you don’t need to worry about what you look like as no one can see you! (put that lippy down ladies)
In my opinion Clubhouse is a great place to collaborate, to meet new peers, to expand your network and to learn and get great tips.
BUT BE SLIGHTLY CAREFUL
Clubhouse does come across as being quite an extroverted platform. As the host of a room, you use a lot of energy – you are the presenter and you are holding together the room and managing the engagement and because of that you run the risk of getting lost in it for hours.
So please watch your energy and your time!
MY TOP CLUBHOUSE TIPS
- Work on your elevator pitch for your bio and get that front and centre of your profile
- Highlight any key moments in your story and expertise
- Make sure you have a good profile photo that is consistent with the other channels you are on
- Make sure you link your bio to where you want people to go to find out more about you – that could be Instagram or Twitter. You can’t really give a ‘call to action’ on Clubhouse because there’s nowhere for people to click, but you can point them to your Instagram or Twitter where they can find out more about you and become part of your community.
(If you already have your media bio you have a head start on all this!)
…..and last but not least….
Play around, have a listen and enjoy!
