Today we are going to talk all about what to do with your media coverage.

Picture this….

You have worked your arse off, you have got your media coverage – AMAZING!!

But what next??

How do you pimp up your PR coverage? Making the most of it is the icing on the cake.

Being seen in the media is such a massive opportunity as it makes you stand out head and shoulders above everyone else. It also gives you something that you can use for your content for your own channels to make sure that you can reach as many people as possible and get that credibility-boosting benefit that the media coverage will give you!

Getting the press coverage in itself is amazing but the huge benefit of getting media coverage now in the wonderful age of the internet –  is that you can share the fact that you’ve got it far and wide.

(Not like in the olden days when you would get your coverage in print on one day and the next day it would be gone!)

So here are my 11 (yes that’s right 11!) top tips on how to MAXIMISE your media coverage!

But….. before we get started please note a few things to be mindful of around copyright,

  • The physical article contained within the publication is subject to copyright BUT links are not.
  • Not all titles are subject to copyright and you can find a list of ones that are here
  • You must ask for permission from the publisher to share screen grabs or PDFs publicly.

So if its online coverage you can share the link far and wide, but you cannot share screenshots of printed or online coverage, unless you have got permission from the publisher of the publication.

Now let’s dive in…..

  • Create an “as featured” image on Canva which you can use across your social media. Take the logo of the publication and include that – people will instantly recognise it. The posts I’ve done which contain the media logos have had the highest engagement out of any of my posts so well worth sharing!
  • Thank the journalist via Twitter. Create a tweet with the link in, thank the journalist and tag them in. There’s a high probability that they will share the tweet to their audience and it is great for building relationships.
  • Add the link for the coverage into your bio so you can direct people from your social media posts.
  • Add your ‘as featured’ image or the publication logo on to your website.
  • LinkedIn has the option to add links to your profile under media. Go to the ‘Experience’ section, edit your current role by clicking the pencil icon on the right. Scroll down to the bottom until you see this section to add media links. A great way to update your professional network!

  • Add as a post to LinkedIn in addition to the media link with more context on the article itself.
  • Include a brief summary of your article and the link in your newsletter that goes out to your mailing list.
  • Share in your blog/news section on your website. Write some context around the article and include the link. If you have an image that was yours and was included in the article, also use that within the post.
  • Share with your suppliers that you work alongside. PR is all about relationships with all the stakeholders of your business and your suppliers are part of that so having that credibility of having a featured link (whether it includes them or not) shows that you are serious and you are going places.
  • Post the link and some commentary in any Facebook groups that you are in. You might think you cannot do that as it’s classed as promo, but actually you aren’t selling anything, you are sharing a win! Sharing your moment of glory is a great way to get noticed within the community.
  • Use the coverage in any proposals or pitches that you do. If you are able to show that you have promoted your business and you have got your own media coverage, again it shows that you are really serious about your business, your credibility and endorsement from the publication.

You made the effort to get the coverage – now get sharing it! Make the most of these PR benefits. You deserve it!
