Let’s be honest, how great does that sound?
But before I dive into my top tips, I need to start off with a caveat….
These top tips will help you do your PR in 30 minutes a day BUT ONLY when you have your PR house in order.
What do I mean by that?
- You have your story and expertise written out and you know what you want to be known for
- You know which photographs you need to bring your story or your products to life.
- You have done your research into where you want to be seen and where your ideal client hangs out so your media efforts are focused.
So now we have cleared that up, let’s dive in!
SIGN UP TO EDITORIELLE.COM
Journorequests are journalist requests that are put out onto Twitter and other platforms to look for contributors, case studies and experts to comment. It is a free service that anyone can use.
Sign up to the free service editorielle.com and they will send you an email everyday at 3pm with that day’s journorequests categorised.
If you are based in the US, the equivalent is called HARO and they send out requests 3 times a day.
Obviously you can check it yourself throughout the day by searching the hashtag journorequest on Twitter, but if you want a quick hit to see what is out there to help you find your feet – this is a great way.
HAVE YOUR PICTURES READY TO GO!
Once you have had your photography done of your business, yourself or your products, then you need these ready to go! One of the things that takes the most time is finding the right images, resizing and captioning them to send to Journalists.
If you are going to send images to Journalists, they need to be no bigger than 1MB per image, ideally no more than 3 of those on the email and use the caption of the image as the file name.
e.g. instead of filename: Image003, change it to Caroline Joynson, founder of Cheerleader PR.
HAVE A PLAN
Put some time in in advance to create a plan for key moments and key dates that are relevant to your business, so you can plan ahead and not be caught out. You will need key dates:
- WITHIN your business – e.g key milestones coming up for your business, new employees starting in your business, store opening date, launch date of new programme or product.
- OUTSIDE your business – national days and awareness days e.g. Christmas, Valentines Day, Mothers Day, National Cupcake Day.
